The Kendriya Vidyalayas are run by the KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA SANGATHAN, an autonomous body formed by the department of education Ministry of H.R.D.Govt. of India,New Delhi. As a result of the recommendations of the Second Pay Commission. They primarily cater to the educational needs of the children of Central Govt.employees including Defence Personnel and floating population liable to frequent transfers throughout the country. Needless to say, therefore they have common syllabus and are affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.

Kendriya Vidyalaya Chittaranjan came into its existance in the year 1986[17-09-86] with a view to providing uniform and high quality of education to the wards of the employees of Chittaranjan Locomotive Works and other Central Government employees. The sprawling campus of the vidyalaya is located amidst the lush of green and the beauties of nature. The Vidyalaya has 38 rooms 25 sections.Each class has 02 sections except class IV, V & VIII which has 03 sections. It accommodates nearly 1000 students studying from class I to XII with science at +2 level in civil sector. Due to its hold on academic and non-academic activities the vidyalaya has earned the distinction of becoming a Model School in Kolkata Region.
